Church Repairs – Update
I imagine many of you must be wondering why the repairs to the church are taking so long and what’s happening. The work completed so far has been outstanding, especially as CEL have coloured all the new oak timber so it blends in with the old oak. Phil Semmens, the Senior Restoration and Conservation Manager for CEL (the restoration and roofing specialists doing the work for us) is keeping us up to date and has explained the problems with replacement materials.
Phil is chasing the supply chain weekly for us, but, as you can imagine, you can’t just pop to B&Q for the specialised materials used in this project. In the meantime, there is still no access to the church until CEL have completed the work. The areas of work to be completed are:
- Remove porch protection
- Take apart defective porch timbers
- Hand carve new wall plates and rafter brace post
- Assemble porch timber
- Install new Terne-coated Stainless Steel sheets
- Install flashings to porch
- point up chase
So, please bear with us, the end is nigh!
